what calibre for longer range coyote shooting!

Hello guys I am new here and I am looking for some help. I want to be able to shoot coyotes from 50 yards to 7-800 yards. I have been looking and reading about 6.5 creedmore, 6.5x284, 6.5/06 I am not saying this is what I am going to have to go with but those are what I have been reading about lately. Any and all help appreciated and thanks in advance.

I shoot coyotes all winter long. I use a .243 because its common and it works fabulous. I use a 105 gr berger. Other times I have used a 4 wheeler and a pistol

I second the .243. It's a fantastic round with great ballistics and will devastate coyotes at those ranges with very low recoil.

I use a Ruger Mark 2 25-06 117gr for 440 yds,a tikka tactial 300WM 168grs to 180grs for longer shots. I dont save the pelts.gun)

I use 223's, 243's and a 25-06. Rifles, optic's and loads set up strictly for coyotes. So I guess it is a matter of what other uses you have for the rifle. I would not want to pack most of mine all day long hunting medium game. I have been looking at the Creedmore for a long range rifle. Just because. My 25-06's will run neck and neck with it. But playing with a new caliber is a lot of fun.

I'm a big fan of the .243 and AI, so that's my pick. However, a .308 is a great yote cartridge also and components are plentiful.

I think a 510 Allen Mag would be perfect, you could kill em as far as you could see em.
Serioulsly though i think a 260 would be perfect.

.243 win, you can develope light loads that are pretty easy on pelts or push em' hard and heavy for longer shots. I really like mine.

If your going to do any volume of shooting, I would think about the .260 REM as well. It'll be way harder on pelts but way better on barrels and ballisticlly you can stretch it out a fair bit farther.

^^Excellent option right here, the 243 AI is a diamond in the rough. Of course i'm a 6mm freak so my opinion is somewhat biased

6mm Rem <Don't own
6mm AI < One of my very favorites & won't be without one.
6mm-284 < King of the hill as far as i'm concerned & I love mine.


In my neck of the woods, hands down, the most popular cartridge by far is the 22-243 win with a fast twist bbl. 75-80grn V-Max @ ~3500fps is very flat shooting & is great 'yote medicine. I have a slow twist on mine as it is a rechambered 22-250. I'm playing with the 68grn Hornady Match with a BC in the .350 area. Not great I know but the velocity potential is obsurd

My friend in Texas has one and can't say enough good about it...it has a great BC as well... wish I had one.

i took one hitting it twice at 725 this spring shooting a 243ai with 95 grain bergers. very accurate light recoil and easy to load

The 6.5-06 will do the job for sure. I wouldn't worry about that. Just a slightly longer bolt throw, little more recoil. Flat shooting & hard hitting, my 'smith calls it the "poor man's 6.5x284" .

My dad shoots a 6.5-06AI & is in love with it.
