Which would you build

OK guys, I'm just getting started in LRS/LRH and I have narrowed down to 2 calibers that I'd like to start with. They are 300WM or 338WM. I'm planning on shooting either of these factory Hornady loads until I start to do my own loading:

I'm going to be building off of a Savage LA centerfeed DBM model 111FCNS more than likely. If I can't get the performance I want out of the caliber I choose I will upgrade to a 338 Edge. I'm looking for a solid 1200+ yd setup. Please give your opinions on what you would do, the 300WM or the 338WM. Thanks

Sounds like a good place to start to me.

The 300 will do anything you want to at 1200 yards but if you extend the distance then I would
recomend the 338 for it's downrange energy and wind bucking ability.

+1, I'm on board with JE's suggestions. I am a huge Savage fan, so can't wait to hear about the results of your build.

Get a 338 RUM. Then no need for anything else. I love the 338 winchester and shoot it often. Longest shot with it was 1100 yards on a moose but several 600-800 yard shots with it.

But you mentioned 1200 yard hunting so you would be better served with a 338 RUM with no need to ever upgrade.

While I would whole heartedly argee with LTLR (I have and love my 338 RUM), The only down side to the RUM is the fact I CAN'T FIND BRASS ANYWHERE!! (I sure hope someone can help with that). The 338RUM is a great caliber, I am very happy with it, but the virtual inability to get brass makes it a pain. None at Midway, none @ Cabelas, None @ Grafs, None @ BlueStar, none @ Midwestern, none @ Natchez etc.... Just an FYI
