Lost in the woods 22-250 loads?

Hey everyone I am lost in the woods on this one.
Remington 700 Sendero 22-250 1-14 twist 26" barrel.
I am wanting to see if I can work up a load for 500 yards.
Any and all info would help out I am starting at zero.

Ive been shooting and reloading a 22-250 for about ten years now. I have some accurate loads I'll share but I have a couple questions first.

What grain bullet are you wanting to shoot?
Are you hunting with this rifle or just shooting paper?

I shoot a couple different bullets for different applications.
One is the Barnes TSX 53 gr. I load for deer at moderate ranges. I know some think this is too light but tell all the deer that have died from this and they'll disagree. You have to know your rifle and keep the range modest and bullet placement is imperative but I've yet to lose a deer or have to track one over 50 yds.

Another is the Sierra 52 gr Sierra HPBT match I punch paper and shoot varmits with. It is really accurate and does a good job on coyotes and other varmint size critters.gun)

+1 on the 52 A-Max or 52 SMK. Lots of powders work great in the 22-250 just take a look at any reloading manual.

Your rifle's twist will limit you to 52-53gr bullets. It "may" shoot the 55gr bullets but that's always at question with the 14 twist. I've killed many, many fat PA groundhogs with a 22-250 and the 52 SMK at distances of about 450 yds. You could probably stretch that a bit if the conditions are suitable.

The Load I've used for years in a number of 22-250's is 37gr. H380 and Sierra 55gr.bt. 3700fps usually shoots in the .4's. I like 380 mostly because I can charge the case right out of the powder measure and not have to weigh each load. For deer loads I change to the Hornady 55gr. bullet. Cliff

.413 @ 100 yards today with 55 BlitzKing, 33.3 Varget five shot group.
1.462 @ 200 yards today with 55 BlitzKing, 33.3 Varget five shot group.
Todays temp right around 48 with no wind.

Can't give you a specific load for the 22-250 but I have had great success with 222, 223, and Weatherby 224 with VVN 133. You may also look up loads with VVN140 I really like the VV powders in these calibers. I have a good load for 22-250 with 32.0 grains of RL 10x and 50 grain Hornady Vmax. You might want a heavier bullet for the range you are looking to shoot. I am going to try VVN133 in my 22-250 as soon as I get a little "shooting" time. Hear it's real good and burns very clean.

It looks like the 55 grainers are working well. I shoot 55 grn Nosler Ballistic tips over 35 grains of Varget and it has proven to be accurate out of a 12 twist 26" tube ,MV= 3620.

500 yards is a long ways for a little 50gr bullet, but here goes...

Nosler brass
CCI 200 primer - what I had on hand.
35gr Varget - below max in most load data.
50gr V-Max seated to max OAL, still doesn't touch the rifling in the Rem 700 VLS.

I get 3900fps throught the chrony. VLS looks like same specs as that Sendero. 1-14tw and 26in barrel.

22-250 is pretty flexible with powder choices. I went with Varget for its flexibility in several calibers I reload. I've read people using powders anywhere from IMR 3031 to IMR 4350. Varget, IMR 4064 and R15 are pretty close to same burn rate.

Playing with a few calibers, I find Varget works better when it is filling up the case.

This load was to mimic the Hornady Varmint factory loads. I went with the Nosler brass, because it was pretty and Nosler's reputation for quality. It has done well. Neck sizing has worked well for the VLS.

I have loaded for a couple different 22-250's and have had the best luck with Varget, ww760,imr 4895. I always try to use the match grade primers and have had the best luck with loads that are towards the maximum of what the manuals call for.I have tried most weights of bullets that will work in a 14" twist and always come back to the 55 grain. They seem to carry well out past a couple hundred yards as compared to the lighter ones. Ballistic tips,Vmax's , Blitzkings are all great.
