Just currious where you all seat your .338 / 300 SMK's in relationship to the lands? I am shooting a 1-10 twist Lilja chambered in 338 LM and it has shot good right from thr git go. I am quite a bit off the lands and wonder if I should do some more testing.

The first question I'd ask is if you can quantify "shot good right from the get go".

What exactly is good?

If you're talking 1/2 MOA at say 600yds, then I'd say you're doing pretty good. Try pushing it out to 800 then 1000yds, and see what happens. If it holds at the longer ranges, well don't mess with a good thing.

If you're talking 1MOA or more at 600yds, then there's a bit of room for improvement, and you might want to play around with it to see if you can do better.

Then again maybe that's plenty good for what you need.

Then again if your not planning on shooting all that far maybe yo

Hi Steve, I don't have any 600 yard targets here to measure. But I do have a target from 750 yards with two groups on it. Both groups are under 6". They were shot off the bi pod too. I haven't shot a ton of groups at 1000 because I usually only shoot cold bore to simulate hunting conditions. But I am usually with in 5" of center mass. When I got the rifle last july I felt it shot plenty good for my skill level at long rang. So rather than dink with the load I felt my time was better spent practising for hunting season. It worked out well, the rifle took several animals past 700 all 1 shot cold bore kills. Longest being a small whitetail doe at 1137. Well now I am looking at summer down time, and would like to hone both me and the rifle to the best we can be.

Like I said, it shot plenty good but maybe it could be better. I am use to shooting Bergers in my other rifles so I looked at the jump off the lands this load has and wondered if this is typical of the 300 SMK. Just thought I would see if most people are close to where mine is seated.

So Steve, where are yours seated?

Lost Creek, Thanks!

Thanks guys!

Jeff
