Recently went long range hunting one of the problems we ran into was a rear bag. Ended up using a regular sand bag but it is heavy to carry. What do you use?

Gun also had an A-5 stock. with the flat bottom on the rear stock. I found it took awhile to get everything adjusted right. Would an A-3 stock work better?

Thanks for replies

For a rear bag many use a sock. Fill with something light weight such as plastic beads or cocoa hulls.

What ever you get fill it with "Poly Fil Micro Beads" poly-fil.com

They won't work w/a sock. Will leak through the mesh.

If you sew, sew your own or get the wiffie to do it.

I use a very small stuff bag w/draw string and foam to seal the opening.
I also filled my rabbit ear sand bag with the stuff.

BB about laughed me off the mountain when I showed up with my small stuff bag filled with some kind of heavy plastic beads. The poly-fil micro beads knocked 98% of the weight off.

Full of Hot Air??????

I had an idea to try an inflateable plastic ball. Like a small beach ball, or possibly some other kind of kids toy/dog toy. Do you think this will work for back country hunts where weight/size is a concern??? Just an idea......

I use these Jamison rear bags.. They are great and they are light.

They come in different colors and are very well made..

Not good idea. Too much bounce. When you squeeze the bag to get the proper elevation you want it to be solid even though its light the poly micro beads are better and as light as air.

A pound and a half of them is about the size of a 20 LB dog food bag....

Where in Idaho is Blightly located:D

A 1.5 LB bag is about 24"x10"X4". Thus shipping weight would be about 4 LBS.

They are full of static electricity but flow like water (except for the ones that catch in a draft and go all over the place. Be sure the missus is not around when you fill the bags and don't run any fans or have doors open.:D

I'll help you out if I can.

If Blightly is in southeast Idaho I'll put it on the Salmon River Stage.;)

I use a piece of closed cell foam shaped like a wedge of cheese covered with fillter material. I just push it farther under the butt for less elevation pull it out for more.
