Well, I love the modern, fast twist, high bc cartridge trend kicked off by the 6.5 Creedmoor. Of all the people I hunt with, I’m the only one who has one and I only shoot it at the range since it’s in a near 12 lb rifle with a muzzle brake. So, I haven’t had to listen to any nonsense about how it’s a magical slayer of any and all hoofed game from point blank to infinity. OTOH, I’m not a fan of the very overbore cartridges especially in very heavy recoiling cartridges. My brother in law has a 257 wby, 300 wby (in an ultralight no less), and a 338 RUM. He shoots them very well, but it’s not my thing. I’m a big believer in moderate velocity and reasonable caliber for the game you’re after. Above about 3000-3100 fps, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze IMO. I mean, if I need a 416 for hunting dangerous game I’ll work my way up to it but cartridges like the 30-378 wby just baffle me. On the other end of the scale, the 308 and 30-06 don’t do anything for me. I’ve had one of each and sold them. They’re very versatile and effective but just kind of vanilla for my taste. Very risky owning 1 rifle you can do everything with - you might end up with just one 😱😱😱😱😱
