This is a used "worked over" Medaist. It had checkering that will filled in with steel bed. When the stock was sanded to blend the steel bed, it exposed pits in the stock from when it was made. The stock was then painted with a high quality paint.
This stock has an aluminum bedding block.
So to recap:

Painted
This would make a great project or is also a fine stock as is, just a bit ugly close up.
