Hi All.
An old friend is having to move back to calif. Is very concerned about taking his firearms into the state, he does not have any black rifles, has a 30 m1.carbine and a garande, has mags for the carbine, can the mags be modified to 10 round? Are the semi autos any problem? Is there a limit onnumber of rounds of ammo? He has a fair number of different guns and has ammo for each.
Any info.for my old friend would be very helpful.
Thank you.

Your friend will not have any issues transporting his firearms into California. I was the manager of an FFL/SOT here in SoCal for the last 2 years and the process if pretty straight forward. The magazines that can accept over 10rds will need to be permanently modified so they cannot accept over 10 (unless your friend has LEO credentials). The only real issue will be if any of their semi-auto's outside of the M1 & M1 Carbine fall within the definition of an Assault Weapon based on Make/Model or Feature. The flow charts below can answer those questions.

I would recommend transporting them in a locked container with any ammo separate from the firearms. Your friend will have 60 days from the time they enter the state to register both their long guns & handguns (Muzzle Loaders & Antiques Pre 1899 are exempt). Below I've posted the CA DOJ form they will need to send in.

Feel free to PM me any questions.
