Hi all, been shooting 300 and less. Longest white tail kill 160 with a H&R .357 Mag. I have a 700 in .308, and just completed the Rem Armorers course, got my letter and I'm shopping for a 700 long range. I have not decided which caliber yet. I am leaning towards a 300 win mag with a Vortex Viper HSLR 4-16x 50. However, still considering the following calipers 7mm Rem Mag, 30-06, 300 Rem Ultra Mag.

I look forward to learning from you.

Humbly,

Welcome aboard.

I moved from PA to Idaho way back in 1966.

The major differences between PA and WY are:

Elevation - great for bullet flight - poor for crunching out the miles.

Humidity - Way lower than PA. Don't need so many layers.....

Wind - PA has none when compared to WY. Time of flight and bc reigns.

Perspective - judging distance in PA was never a challenge. It's a whole other story out west. Get a decent to great LRF.

Other than that its a cake walk.:)

Thanks Roy, I will definitely upgrade my LRF and take your advice.
I won't be setting any speed records on those mountains either.

Thanks for posting.
