Ok, we talk about bear attacks all the time and lack of common sense at times. Lake Michigan set record last year with 53; it is "ahead of the 2020 pace" this year with well over 20 so far. Last week, 2 fisherman were washed off pier in extreme wave (5-7') conditions washing over the piers. Saved one and just found second yesterday. I have been around Great Lakes over 50+ years and the lack of respect for these bodies of water is simply astounding. The number of drownings while swimming in red flag days is crazy primarily due to rip currents. Even boating has become head scratchers. Folks heading out in small craft warnings in boats that belong on inland lakes during those conditions. Heck, I helped a guy few years back that tried to go out in a CANOE! Yep, flipped it in early May which means dangerously cold and potentially fatal. Hauled his dumb *** into boat which BTW was tough as heck. No PFD on either. Then he says "save my gear"! Nope, got his canoe and rest of stuff is somewhere! So I ask you, how can the severity of the Great Lakes be completely ignored on such a continuous basis? Is this simply natural Darwinism?
