So....everything was going great until today! I bedded the action with Accuglass. It popped out perfectly from the stock and it looked great too. I then bed the barrel channel, using masking tape to create a 20 thou gap from the bedding material, and I used several coats of release agent as well....or so I thought. When I attempted to separate it from the stock it wouldn't budge. I tried EVERYTHING.....until I heard a snap that is! My new synthetic stock snapped at the wrist!! I won't name the stock maker because it was MY FAULT and I wouldn't want his name associated with my F-Up. So here's the worst part. One of the "techniques" that I used to separate the action from the stock was to insert a piece of dowel into the open floorplate (read it somewhere!) so that it contacted the action and banged it with a hammer....which then bent the bolt railway upwards! See picture:( I just dropped off the gun at my gunsmith. He told me that he is "pretty sure" that he can tap the rail back into place and then polish the railway but added that he has never seen this type of damage before. So besides trashing a $700 stock I may have destroyed the whole gun as well. It's going to be an agonizing wait until he let's me know if he fixed it or not so I was wondering if any of you have seen this before and what you though that my chances of a repair is. Thanks Fellas and trust me that my Gunsmithing days are OVER!
