Has anyone had bad reports with this bullet at super close range? This week I did a DIY Axis deer hunt in maui. I shot a monster Axs buck at 20-30 yards. It wasn't a rushed shot, I aimed right on the lungs behind front shoulder (I normally shoot High shoulder cns) , the shot felt great, I didn't jerk the trigger (I know this because I do a super slow trigger pull and was actually surprised when the gun went off) I have never gotten buck fever and didnt on this buck either. bullet was moving at 2800 fps 180 eldm. There wasn't a ton of blood, In fact I didn't find blood until about 50 yards down the trail. We found about 5 or 6 spots of blood over the course of about 180 yards. then nothing couldnt find anymore blood tracking etc. We spent the whole day looking for him with no luck. This buck was no joke pushing 40 inches. I have had a few people go up there and look for it as well thinking they would be able to smell it. No luck. I don't understand how this could happen. My only thought is the bullet fragmented and didn't go through both lungs, or exit the animal, and maybe on lung was plugging the entry hole allowing him to run a lot further? Just curious if anyone as had this happen for me. This is the first time losing an animal and it just so happens it was a once in a lifetime animal for me and I am trying to make sense of it. I have killed a few other bucks with the same bullet and set up but I shot high shoulder and they were both at about 300 yards.
