Holster modification

I was wondering if anyone has cut/modified a handgun holster to accept a red dot sight. I'm putting a Delta Point on a HK45 and thought about modifying an existing holster to accept the new configuration. It probably is not wise as I have zero experience in leather work. However, I thought I would ask this group for input.

Don't do it. I tried with a Galco. While it worked, it looked like dog$#!+. So I never used it.

Pony up the dough and buy the correct holster.

You're probably right. I just got a visual of what the end product would look like after my butchering and started looking at other options. Dang! Those custom holsters are pricey….

Yep!!! I did exactly that with my Galco Kodiak for my S&W 460 XVR….."butchering" an expensive, like new holster was a difficult thing to do. But, it has worked just fine……I'd do it again! memtb

Well, mine does look like soft, smoldering, dog feces…..but it works and I saved about $200. memtb

Look at Azula holsters. They may have what you're looking for.

I have a couple for my .40 and magazine pouch too. Love 'em!

I would do this in heart beat if the end product came out like some of the ones shown above. Deciding to go with the Delta Point I have sitting in the safe will basically make the existing holster unusable. I have too many things that are no longer used already. Given the current configuration of the holster, it doesn't look like there would be too much trimming involved. However, one needs to realize their limitations. I don't want to end up with a ugly and compromised holster.

I agree, but in viewing a number of your side arms and accessories I believe you have been able to accomplish both function and looks. You have some of the the most eye appealing handguns I have seen on this forum.

I've modified a few, I don't see anything compromised or ugly - now they're more useful. Two that I didn't do are my Diamond D chest holsters - those two won't be carrying anything with a red dot on them.
