I'm 56 and had surgery on December 2nd to repair a torn tendon on the cuff as well as a torn bicep tendon. I planned it around the time that deer season tapered off and before the end of the year so I could get everything on this year's deductible. It's my second go-round with rotator cuff repair on this shoulder. I've also had rotator cuff surgery on the other shoulder as well as a separate labrum repair on that shoulder (initial pain on the labrum repair was much worse than the rotator cuffs but recovery was much quicker). With rotator cuff repair you really need to give it several months so that the tendons have a chance to re-strengthen at the attachment. All three of my rotator cuff repairs have been because of bone spurs. The one that I just had redone had the AC joint trimmed up when the initial repair was done in 2007. The end of the acromion grew back with a spur that impinged and eroded one of the rotator cuff tendons and gave me the familiar symptom of not being able to lift my arm above my shoulder without significant pain. With just a little bone grinding, I would shoot whenever I was comfortable in moving my arm around without significant pain. I would say at least a couple of weeks. Good for you for having the AC joint cleaned up bf it made things worse.
