[QUOTE="bigngreen, post: 671613, member: 13632"] Trust me I've been thinking about punching up a little more case for some of the new bullets, my personal favorite would be a 300 Norma mag case but the goal for this rifle is not to push the limits of anything, I want to keep the velocity around 2950-3000fps for a 165 Matrix bullets or 170 Berger when they show. I came to the conclusion that a 14.5 lbs 270 WSM is no good for an every day hunting rifle, the chambering is good the bullets are good the rifle configuration sucks! I had this epiphany while helping my buddy load a super nice dark horned mule deer buck that I had missed at 75 yards while he was chasing does, when I first pulled up the scope was to high and I had to crank it down then I got it back up and kinda tracking on him but no dice I couldn't fallow through and hit him so my buddy pulled up an whacked him. The barrel weight and stock fit are great for shooting prone but that is it, I need a practical hunting rifle with capability from 0-1000 odd yards that handles fast. I have all the parts for a long range 338 setting here so the WSM is going practical!!! In my mind after the make over the rifle will look like this. Timed and trued Savage short action. EGW 20 moa base. Nightforce ultra lite rings. Vortex HS LR optic. Benchmark or Brux #5 in 1-9 twist, 26in long and nitrided. Muscle or Holland brake. Manners MCS-T stock with blind mag. Chambering is going to be based on the 7 SAUM necked to 270 for the 165 Matrix and 170 Berger. This should handle very well for of hand shots to prone LR shots, timber to canyons. It'll be the rifle a guy grabs every time he heads out because it will get it done and put game down!!!! The big guns can ride in the truck till they are needed for elk or wolves that think they are out of range gun) Roy, my daughter flipped out when I showed her the parts and explained what they were, she wants to come down and shoot it with you when it's done:D I'm searching out a Rem short action bolt for the action, the barrel rolled right on so I'll true up the lug abutments and receiver face then see what thickness of recoil lug I would need for proper headspace and order one from PTG so I don't have to touch the chamber, she wants a pink laminate stock so I need to find that also. I'll put it together this winter when I'm not living at work  She wants to shoot it right away but she needs a little more time with the open sights and 22lr, but hopefully by next summer she'll come to the shoots with me and tear up the coyote gong with it. It did kinda put me in a hard spot because my wife was wondering when her rifle was going to be done so she can come shoot also, so I have to keep my eye out for parts to build her a 6.5x47 Lapua, she's mean with a rifle!!!!!
