Here's a cool one, guys. I hate to part with it but I'd like to make a trade toward a specific build. Based on a cursory search, this rifle was originally built in 1956 with a magnum bolt face. In '61 it received an Apex barrel chambered in 308 Norma Mag, and a custom Claro walnut varmint stock. It has a relatively short length of pull, I want to say around 13 1/4, and the barrel is a light contour cut to 20". The barrel is stamped "J. BOLLIN 61" on the bottom of the chamber area, and "JRB Apex" on the barrel in front of the serial number. I purchased this at auction from a California widow several years back and it was and is in very good condition. The widow said it had not left the safe in well over 30 years, and I'm inclined to believe her.
Given the short, light barrel, short stock and large caliber, I'd say this was built for large game hunting in hilly terrain where a lighter, more compact magnum rifle was called for and in '61, this was the best readily available action to build on.
This stock was hand made and hand checkered back in '61. The checkering placement is not perfect, but they are cut well and are not hurt. I honestly think this adds to the "cool-factor" of this rifle.
I'm looking to trade this rifle for a pre-64 with a standard bolt face. Since this one has such a cool history and style, and since all serial numbers match as they should, I don't want to bastardize it by swapping out the bolt. If you have anything to trade, please let me know. I do not have a cash price at this time. Rings/scope not included. Also posted on AS.
