I grabed my old Ruger 220 swift went down on the farm this eveing to try and call a coyote. I called for 45 minutes and nothing showed up It was getting late but I still had abouts 20 minutes of shooting light left so I stopped by the creek to see if I could see any beavers. I wasn't there 5 minutes and one came out. I took a head shot and he flopped around a few times then sank. A few minutes went buy and here comes another one straight for me. I took another head shot on him and he sank. I sure wish I could have got them for coyote bait.

Good shooting. What loads were you using?
I was useing 50g V-Max and 37.5 IMR 4064. I was going to take my 22 K hornet but couldn't find my cartridges. It was getting late so I just grabed the Swift. When I got back, I found them in the gun case with the rifle LoL:rolleyes:. The Old Swift is my most accurate rifle but it is a little over kill for the ranges I was shooting the beavers. 50 yards for the first one and 25 for the second. Most of the time I have one of my 22 mags in the truck for the beavers. I am up on a 20 foot bank looking down so it gives a good angle to shoot them as they swim by.

If your not keeping pelts, there's no such thing as overkill on varmints haha! I bet them beavers blew apart when that V-MAX 50 grainer hit them!

Our southern beavers are not worth skinning. They are just varmints that dam up ditches and flood timber. They also come up the banks and eat our soybeans and corn. I keep them in check. I shot 11 last year. Now that makes 2 for this year. The way powder and bullets are these days I hate to waste them when I could have done it with the 22 mag or hornet. Yea the V max did take the whole side of their head off. LOL:D

Haha tear them up! I have seen what those 50gr V-MAXs do at 3200fps out of a .222 Remington and would be scary to see how well they blow up at Swift speeds! Even the bigger 87gr V-MAXs out of our .243s tear up ground hogs and crows at 3250fps. Really love these Hornady V-MAXs, don't think i'll ever change to another varmint slug.
