Great image. That lens has nice depth of field, what f-stop is it? I used to shoot a Nikon 400mm f3.5 for the deer photos back in the day when I was shooting covers for a lot of magazines. Assume you were on a good tripod.

Ian I was hand holding it. The lens is a Canon 500mm f4 image stabilizer lens I had a 1.4 extender on also.

TOTALLY AWESOME PIC,

Thanks for sharing, I love all birds of prey. We see several species during the winter migrations. I work right in downtown Houston and we have a pair of Osprey's which pick off various fish from one of the major bayous right by our facility. THey are wonderful to watch. Just this past weekend by the house here the wife and I saw a huge Red-tailed hawk and a smaller Kestrel within about 10 minutes of each other both here on the outskirts of the city.
