axis info plz.

anybody here looked at the savage axis action to build on (budget build)? y does it stick out of the stock so much? is that the stock design or the action design? how does it compare to a stevens 200?

I recently purchased an Axis in 22-250 for my son to shoot. I was looking for a Stevens 200 but none were available locally. The Axis will hold 1" to 1.25" at 100 but that is the only thing it has going for it. The Stevens will be much easier to accessorize as the there are no after market stocks, recoil lugs, etc. for the Axis. If you plan is to improve the rifle now or in the near future I would definitely go with the Stevens.
