The rifle began life as a Remington Model 600 "Mohawk" in 6mm Remington. The idea was to build the 'perfect' all around deer hunting rifle. I dad the action trued, bolt fluted, trigger tuned, put on a 22" #4 fluted Hart barrel chambered in 7-08 AI (tight neck), and dropped it into an HS Precision sporter stock. I currently have a Zeiss 5-15x42 scope on it. This is definitely not a "long range" rifle. Hard to say how much of a velocity improvement I get from the improved cartridge, but I am able to achieve book velocities out of the 22" barrel. (Most book #'s are 26" barrels). So, in my case, the "Improved" case gave me back the velocity I lost with the shorter barrel. I tend to load 140g bullets targeting 2800 fps. I've loaded as hot as 2950 fps but brass life suffered significantly (loose primer pockets) so I stick with 2800. It is a shooter, though.
