[QUOTE="Okanogan, post: 3076671, member: 90397"] I saw a video a while back of someone comparing 3 different lots of Hornady Precision Hunter ammunition. They broke one round down from three different boxes of ammo and showed what appeared to be three different type/size of powder grains. The powders reportedly looked like RL26, H1000 and Stabil HD. They shot and chrono graphed the three different lots with the kinds of velocity variation you'd expect. Stabil HD was by far the slowest with RL26 the fastest. I guess it is possible the ammunition came from times with serious powder shortages and Hornady just wanted to sell ammunition. I wish I could find the video and post it. It suggests to me that the wide variation in reported factory ammunition for the 7 PRC maybe the result of the ammo more so than the rifles (excluding barrel length). In my case, I got a 7 PRC because I didn't have a 7 mm. If I was already set up for 7mm RM and the rifle I liked that wasn't barreled for heavies, I'd have it re-barreled to a tighter twist rather than start over with the 7 PRC. Within reason, I'm not overly concerned with what is the maximum velocity I can push out of the muzzle. All my hunting rifles with lighter contour barrels seem to shoot better with something below maximum velocity. I'm interested in what velocity my rifle tells me it likes to get 1/2 MOA or better with a good ES/SD. My Seekins Element seems to like the velocities a little under 2900 fps best for the 175 EH.
