Those of you shooting a saum or similar cartridge can you please recommend powders other than RL26. I'm shooting 168gr HVLDS from a 22" barrel. Locally I've seen H1000, Retumbo, H4831sc, VV, and every Alliant powder minus RL26. I prefer the most temp stable as possible. Starting loads would also be appreciated. Thanks

RL23 - start at ~54gr with the 168's

7SAUM has the same capacity as 280AI, so you can look there for data.

Fortunately, a few guys here shoot 7SAUM, so you may not have to!

I've had excellent results using relatively fast powders with the 168 VLDs (Berger and Matrix) in a 26" SAUM. H100-v, H4350 and H414 all gave .3 MOA or better groups and velocities around 2900-2940 fps. H4350 had been the most accurate with consistent sub .2" groups and 2902 fps.

My best results have been with H1000 and H4831sc. I've also used IMR4451 Enduron with good accuracy.

I get the best combination of speed and accuracy with H1000. H4831sc has been equally accurate (maybe slightly better) but slower velocity. IMR4451 has produced good accuracy but I've only used it with 150 gr bullets. Velocity was low also.

I've tested, briefly, IMR7977 but in my gun it hit pressure way sooner than I expected. Much sooner than H1000.

Great info guys. I'm going to get a plan and go from there. Thanks

Joe
