Looking for some input from guys that have loaded 180 ish grain bullets with N565 or RL26... good starting points and where you hit pressure as well as velocity. This is a long action so seating depth isn't an issue.
I run a 7 SAUM on a stiller predator LA, 26" benchmark barrel with 175 Berger Elite Hunters, Nosler brass, Fed 215M primers and .002" neck tension. COAL is 2.958" CBTO with my gauges is 2.240" which is .030" off the lands and where I found the best accuracy. RL26 I worked up and got a slight ejector mark at 63.5 grains and heavy bolt lift at 63.8, best accuracy was at 62.6 grains and 2996 FPS per my notes. I went back to my old load using H4831SC which is what I had been running previously and was more accurate and better ES/SD in my rifle with a velocity of 2957 FPS.Looking for some input from guys that have loaded 180 ish grain bullets with N565 or RL26... good starting points and where you hit pressure as well as velocity. That's what I'm talking about!! That's exactly what I'm hoping to get with a 22" Proof! I'm getting more excited hearing this. I also have a couple Exo packs...apparently great minds think alike!I'm only 50 rounds in to my 7 SAUM, but the early results with RL-23 and my 22" Proof is getting a good node and accuracy with...
Planning on working with 155 Hammer Hunters as well.
- 168 VLD @ 2975
- 175 ELD-X @ 2915
N565 is on order.
Ha ha! Great to hear. That's what I'm talking about!! That's exactly what I'm hoping to get with a 22" Proof! I'm getting more excited hearing this. I also have a couple Exo packs...apparently great minds think alike!
I have been wondering what would be best with a shorter barrel. I love h1000, retumbo, n565 and n570 for most of my hunting rigs. But with this lighter weight, shorter, high country mountain gun, I have wondered if there is a better choice. You might consider a slightly faster powder in the shorter barrel. In my 20" barreled 7 SAUM I use 60.5 grains of H4831 with a 180 grain ELD-M for 2765 fps.
Then again maybe I will try a slightly faster powder?
