I have a Browning X-Bolt 6.8 Western, and all the rage seems to be over the 6.5 PRC. If the 6.8W doesn't take off, Is it possible to swap the barrel and continue to use the 6.8W action, shooting the 6.5 PRC cartridge.

Just a curious question.

Thank you!

All you will need is a barrel/reamer and a good gunsmith if you decide to take that route.

In my quiver the 6.8 Western is a keeper. No shortage of brass and good bullets. I don't see much love for X-bolt modifications on this forum so I'd suggest keeping the x-bolt unchanged. Get a 6.5 PRC and then sell one of them later after you have decided which you like best.

Worst case scenario 10yrs from now they stop making factory ammo. Start reloading or re-barrel but if you go that route a new barrel you should be ready. By then we'll have some new super round that'll peak your interest. I had planned for a 6.5x284 for years then the prc came along. You're only handicap is factory ammo if it doesn't take off.
