HI guys,
Long time listener first time caller.

Ok so i have a question for everyone i'm new into the long rang arena and i would love to build a rig.
I have been thinking of the 338 edge bc i love the big guns and i like the idea of sending a 300gn pill down range. I also like the 6.5 creedmore, smaller less recoil and cheaper to shoot.

Now i have a 300 wm and also a 6.5 cm but in a AR10 platform.

My main use would be for paper, deer, elk. I have access to a 1200 yard range not to far from where i live.

I know that i want to build on a 700LA trued action and a manners stock, barrel undecided but i cant decide what to build.

Can i get your Pros an cons and well just your opinions on what i should get, Ill be happy either way. PS i reload ...

I wouldn't do either of those :D

If you choose a 6.5mm on a long action I would go with a 6.5-06 or 6.5-284. Gives you a bit more poop for longer range.

In the world of 338s I really don't get the Edge craze. The 338 RUM is Remington's version of the 338 Edge that was shortened slightly to work better with the long 338 bullets. Right now 338 RUM brass is easier to come by than 300 RUM, so there really is no reason to build an Edge right now. More discussion here: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/338-rum-vs-338-edge-68625/

The 340 Weatherby is another great option and brass is even easier to find. Cheaper too.

Since you mention long range elk hunting I would choose a 338.

Agree with neither. I would utlize your existing 300 WM for your ELK hunts and build a new 6.5 Gap 4S (SAUM) to hunt everything else and punch paper out to 1200 yrds. Ballistics are awesome, brass is becoming main stream, light weight for easy carry in the field, and since you already have a 6.5CM, you can interchange projectiles (although I like the prospect of utilizing the new 143 gr. ELD-X bullets w/ G1 BC .625......this is a bad combination for both paper and game).

I think it was more a lawyered up thing but having emailed with Nosler re: the different body lengths on their versions of the 277, 308, 338 and 358. I'm pretty sure the ballistition got their say too and wanted the same COAL as the 7mm and 300 RUM for FACTORY loading parameters.
