Eastern Colorado. It's been a few years, but I just ran across the pic.

This deer hunt was actually on David Morris' TV show "Whitetail Nation". We spotted the buck bedded, went back to the bunkhouse and grabbed his cameraman and filmed a quick hunt.

I missed a 90 yard running shot and connected with a 350 yard running shot.

Biggest body deer I have ever seen. I often weigh big deer just to get a gauge for what a 300 lb Buck really looks like.

When I say he was easy 400 lbs, I'm betting the bank on it. An absolute giant of a deer.

I got his sheds from the farmer from the previous year. They were a different configuration, but also scored exactly 173.

Yeah. It was a guided hunt. A "management" deer! (173" mgt deer!) A lot of private land out there. The ranch I hunted produced some giant deer. There was a 195 Mulie, a 180 WT and some "smaller deer" in the 160's shot that week.

Unfortunately, he lost that lease. Guys see this kind of activity and will outbid you.

No kidding. A ranch we hunt had a guy come in and offer 50k a season for exclusive deer rights. For a single deer a year. Good thing he was an ahole. Rancher told him to kick rocks.

Wow. That's not an uncommon story though. Leasing ground has become a ridiculous game. I leased out my deer rights but kept the Aoudad hunting rights. I didn't give it to the highest bidder either, I went with the guys I was most comfortable with. Left money on the table in lieu of potential headaches down the road.
