M-70 featherweight stock options

Originally I said buy a McMillan stock and put a Limbsaver because I didn't want to harm any collector value of the factory stock. But if you like your M70 I'd just get a Limbsaver installed on your factory stock since it's been bedded. It'll make a difference.
 
may give the Limbsaver pad a try . it has a decelerator pad from the factory on it now

The thin red one? Those don't absorb recoil as nice as the Limbsaver recoil pads.

Well that's a pretty thick one. I think the Sims is better, but how much better that's hard to say. It might be the same recoil. What caliber rifle do you have? Mine is a 30-06.
 
This one is a 300WM also have one in 3006 . It is more of a fit issue than anything else I think . I injured my right side pretty bad in a ranch accident last year just before retiring , detached bicep, labral tear and rotator cuff tear , all on the right side/shoulder . I have healed from that and am good now , but the rifle fits different now than it did before . My shoulder "pocket" is just slightly different than it was before and seems to only be affecting the fit of the two m-70 featherweights . The rest of my rifles are good , weird.

It's most likely the weight of the rifle combined with shooting 300 WM. Stock fitment could contribute to the felt recoil, but I say it's more the weight of the Featherweight. You could try bring the rifle position more into mid line of your body. Here's a video on it if you're not familiar with this position.
 
Thanks for the video . Always good to get back to the basics . Think I may just load up some milder rounds and revisit the basics and get out there and shoot it a bit more before doing anything else .

Yeah I think that's a good idea. You might consider going down in bullet weight. Or load the 185gr Berger Jug at 30-06 speeds. Better BC than 180gr class "hunting" bullets. Another option is to get a clamp on Witt Machine muzzle brake.
