The Ut state Governor Cox has issued a state wide ban on fireworks for the general public, except the mayor's can reject it and issue their own directives.
I know the west is pretty dry and due to bad polices we have an abundance of fallen and dead timber for massive wildfires.
The SLC mayor Mendenhall has always wanted to ban fire works ever since she was elected. This year the police and firedeparment said they will be cracking down harder than ever and even asking for the public to rat out their neighbors for lighting fireworks. I have lived in utah my entire life except 4 yrs in Illinois for my apprenticeship and I have never remembered such a push to ban fireworks. About 12 O'clock this morning someone had the balls to disobey the ban and lights off a few fireworks. I beleive right after That I heard a drone flying to the sound of the fireworks as it was pretty close to my house.
As I was half asleep I just had a ominous feeling of being in an orwell book about communism or a dystopian movie with no civil liberty, Where you're every move is monitored. Was a very sad feeling remembering some of the story's my grandmother told me about nazi Germany and some of the Russians I worked with telling me about gulags. Not what I wanted to feel on the 250th fourth of July. I hope everyone had a better start to their 4th.

I absolutely hate fireworks, but can tolerate them for one week out of the year. Potentially torching the countryside is a decent reason to ban them in my opinion. Your situation reminds me of people ratting out others for not masking up.

...and, I believe we are much close to an Orwellian society than most think. Happy fourth!

Well when they are told not to fire them off due to the fire threat maybe they should listen? I am sure those people would be the first yelling that their house burnt down and screaming why didn't the fire department do more. I feel no pity for them and hope they were caught. Has nothing to do with Orwellian society but safety of the homes of all the residents in the area.

I can understand fireworks bans in certain area's I can even understand Utahs ban on all aerial fireworks, how many large cities burnt down because of sparklers and fountains though?
As others have noted the similarities between Covid, face masks and vaccines. Fear doesn't automatically void my rights and using fear to control people is in my view absolutely is orwellian. And using the Nancy's of the world to tattle tale is exactly how the Bolsheviks used to enforce their communist rule over Russia and East Germany. How do you think our government will use the information of flock cameras and your internet data if you have to verify who you are to get internet access. Will it give you more freedom or to use it against your freedoms when you feel you have to self monitor yourselves and what you can or cannot say?

Man talk about trying to stretch a fireworks ban into something else. lol If you don't have the common sense to not possibly cause mass fires because you want your freedom to start them then not sure what to tell you. Enjoy your freedom living in a shelter after a mass fire.

I cannot believe there are so many here that despise fireworks. I personally have not used them in decades, but I sure enjoyed them when i was a kid. The noise is annoying but it is still fun for some people and a tradition for most.

Edited to add, there are no wildfire threats where I live. That would definitely be a reason not to partake in them.

As I write, I am surrounded in heavy smoke from "human" caused wildfires. We have a severe drought here and Red Flag danger with fire and fireworks bans. The largest fire in the state is only a few miles away, and friends have lost everything. Any idiot using fireworks of any kind in this extreme dry grass, timber and winds is going to wish he/she gets a visit from the sheriff and not some of the neighbors.

I don't know how I'm srtreching anything.
Ut has always had an aerial fireworks ban. And how is using fear not a minipulation to change social behavior?

It's not "using fear". It's using common sense when the conditions are ready to start a large fire. How can you not see that?

Maybe you should get away from your computer, go to a local fire department and volunteer. Then maybe you will understand and not sit and type conspiracy theories on a fireworks ban.

Stay safe, prayers for you and your friends
