Got my first Montana bear hunt in the books last month. No tags filled but man what an experience. Hunted the Kootenai national forest along the gated forest roads. Pretty sure we were about 500 feet low in elevation most of the hunt because we saw a lot more sign the last 2 days going higher. Hunt started with some of the best weather you could ask for then got colder the longer we were there to the point of waking up to 3 inches of snow pack out morning but melted off pretty quick. We did however run into a mountain lion, some moose, elk, turkey, deer of both kinds, antelope, sage grouse and a wide verity of small kritterz. Other than not seeing any bear I couldn't have asked for a better time in the woods with some amazing friends.
