Hi all,
Having had some issues with the folding stuff of late, I am looking at middle priced scooes, as prices here keep going up and up, but wages do not.
I am toying with the Elite 6500 in 2-16x42 for my Rem 700 LR 300WM.
Do you feel this will be adequate for 600-800mtr shooting?
Normally I would choose something 22-25x for these ranges, but these scopes are out of my price range at the moment.

What do you all think?

BTW, these scopes are just under $1000AUSD here in Down Under.

Cheers.

Hi Magnum, the only Bushnell Elite I have is the 3500 but I am very impressed with the glass quality as it is very sharp. My understanding is the glass on the 6500 is better still and I have read comments that it is a shame that Bushnell discontinued this line of scopes. As a comparison I pulled out a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44mm and set it on 16 power and I was able to count the 10mm cross bars on a steel gate at 1000m. This may also be of interest.

So I have looked through a couple of the scopes you are asking about, but never owned one. Its sounds like this is more of a question about the adequacy of the magnification. I own several 3-15 and 4-16 power scopes and regularly shoot steel at 1000 yards with them. I think it will work just fine for what you want to do with it.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a few in the same range as you, 3-15, 6-18 and larger, just wasn't sure if 2-16 would cut the mustard on the ranges I want to shoot at.
My smallest scope is a 4-12 I picked up 25 years ago, it's banged up pretty good now but functions just fine.

Cheers.

If you are talking about this one(2.5-16x capped turrets in link) the turrets were accurate but they were very small, poorly marked, no zero stop, and are the pop up to re-zero then push down but it pops up way too easy and you lose where you are. Glass was not as good as the price and got really dark from ~14x up and I couldn't see much at closing hunt times. Sold the rifle to a buddy and he has had the turret pop up and lose where he was on the dial, it free wheels in neutral once you pull it up. If you can get SWFA there or a VX-5HD $750 US on Gunbroker

Thanks for the links.
Yes, it is the 2.5-16 tactical. There are only a few left here.
The SWFA looks the goods, I will investigate those a little closer.

Cheers.

Update.
I have settled on Meopta MeoPro 4.5-14x44, cheaper than anything else and has fast focus eyepiece, which I like due to my eyes being different to my Dad. He'll be using this rifle too.

Thanks all.

Cheers.
