So I had posted up a thread awhile ago about my necks splitting after only 3 or 4 firings. I changed my dies and am using a Redding type s full length sizing die with a .289 bushing and doing a .002 shoulder bump. I've been running Peterson brass lately and so far so good until today. I had one split on its 5th firing. I guess I'm at a loss as to why this keeps happening to me. It's happened on adg, Peterson, and norma. My fired necks measure .295 and I have .002 neck tension. I dont anneal my brass but I feel it should be lasting longer than 5 firings. Does anyone have any ideas? I do neck turn my brass but that's happened on non neck turned brass so I know that's not the problem.

.295 fired and a .289 bushing are what I use for my 6.5 CM. I have never had a split neck with up to 10 firings. I anneal. I use Hornady brass though. Which may well be a softer allow and not as prone to splitting. Ever had hornady brass split on you?

Come to think of it no I havent. I cant get a .289 to work on hornady brass I'd need a .288 or a .287

Have you measured the neck of a fired round? It's possible the chamber neck is a little on the large side.

Also been having an issue with it shooting well lately. I have not been able to get it to shoot any where near as well as it used to. Only about 700 rounds down the tube of my criterion barrel. I'm just so frustrated right now with the way its shooting.

The brass you are using is a decent quality so I am surprised a little but annealing is something I definitely think you need to get into.
The other suggestion is I have both type s NK & FL sizing dies & really only use the FL die when I feel the bolt start to get a little tight to close so 95% of the sizing is on the NK die, the less work on the brass the better.
Sounds like batch your batching your brass as well so it should be easier to control this.

Size part of the necks, not as far down as possible.

Liquid cleaning brass? Avoid any products containing vinegar, ammonia and ethanol products.

Mop chamber out well of any cleaning solvents.

Sometimes its just the brass.

Start annealing

start Annealing sounds like work harding as to shooting when my rifles start droping off I do a copper out cleaning but if the necks are harding they will not grip the bullet the same way

Ive been salt bath annealing for a year now in the lee melting pot. Its pretty simple and fool proof. I am about $160 into everything including the small lee pot. You can get a temp probe off ebay for 6 bucks to moniter temps. I bought mine in Celsius and keep the salt @500 celcius and dunk them for 7 seconds. Its more forgiving than blowtorch thats way over temp and varys in temp each time you light it. Got the stuff from ballistic recreations.

The torch worked for years though.....
