What are everyone's thoughts or opinions on Grayboe or Mc3? I'm going to try one of the two but I cannot decide which one. I'm building a lightweight hunting rifle in .270 WSM.

Thanks
Matt

I should add more detail to the build. Mr. Geoffrey Corn is going to put together a fairly lightweight hunting rifle for me. I am using a Lilja 3 groove #3 barrel, Remington short action mag bolt face with BDL bottom metal. This should be an all around hunting rig in .270 WSM. I like the Grayboe Outlander and the MC3 hunting stock.
The biggest advantage I see is I can get the MC3 in carbon fiber and save on weight.
I spoke with McMillian yesterday and they said the MC3 was shipping now.
I know there is a difference in the construction process of the stocks but I am not sure what may be better or worse. The guys at McMillian said they are both great and is personal preference.

I like the looks of the hunting mc3 stock. $319 for a carbon fiber stock though? that seems odd. It is also listed at 4 lbs, so is carbon just the name of the color?

The MC3 says that it is "constructed of a carbon fiber filled polymer". I think the whole thing with the MC3 is that it's a different kind of injection molding technology, so it's not a carbon fiber shell composite stock like manners etc. For me, I'd either pick up the outlander for $270 or so online or save and go for a Manners in the pattern of your choice. Once you're in the $400's to me it makes sense to save up a little longer. That bring said, the outlander seems like a solid stock, just not super light. A lot of the major chains carry the Remington American Wilderness Rifle which uses their stock, so it should be easy to check one out in person.

From what I understand the mc3 is a a5 profile clone and if that's the case I'd buy a grayboe renegade. I've got 2 a5s and 2 renegades and I like the thinner pistol grip part of the stock on the renegade alot better. For my cheaper rifles I've been using the bergers hmr stock. You can find these used for 300 buck and they work good after bedding.

I called McMillian a couple days ago this is what I was told-
The carbon fiber hunting stock is a Game Scout clone. The carbon fiber is injected during the molding process. The weight of the carbon fiber version is around 2 pounds. The non carbon fiber version is 2.5 pounds.

Yeah I see that, a few months ago they weren't making the Hunter stock yet evidently.

The MC3 website isn't very good so I decided to give them a call. The guys were very informative and easy to talk to. It was nice talking with them. They would not recommend one over the other just that the process was different.

What stock did you end up going with?
