    33 Nosler

So I personally am looking for 250 grain bullets or heavier with a high ballistic coefficient. That's why I bought some Badlands Precision 250 grain bulldozers. But I haven't figured out which powder to try I think nosler's own information said the h1000 was good. Does anyone have experience...

    33 Nosler

So far none. I was able to 3078 fps with 77grns of Rel19 using 225 gr Speer SpBt bullets and very good accuracy. I settled with 2920fps and 79.8 grns of Rel 19 using Hornady 230 ELDX. I'm still experimenting. The main reason I did the conversion was to remove the magazine spacer and be able to...

How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

How far are you willing to go depends on how bad you want it. When I was a young man of 49 I hiked 2 mi from my truck 1,000 ft up and shot a five-point bull. I completely de-boned it right there at the kill site, I carried two 70 lb loads out on my back to my truck. I even carried my rifle back...

    33 Nosler

So I just rechambered my 338 Win Mag to 33 Nosler this year. I did work up a hunting load for Elk with reloader 19 and Hornady 230 grain eldx bullets. I got pretty good accuracy, but not great velocity, mid to high 2800's. I tried the 270 gr eldx bullets but didn't get good accuracy with IMR...

    Hornady ELDX inconsistency in construction

Here is a Hornady 230 grain eldx that I just harvested from an elk I killed September 21st. It took three shots I was very disappointed in how much the bullet fragmented and dropped in weight this 230 grain bullet weighed just under 125 grains and left shards of bullet material along the wound...

    Bullet Construction vs Lethality

2nd the Sierra 250gr SBT, 2800fps. Dozens of elk personally killed with this bullet, none got away. All pass thru shots, except for 1 gut shot, bullet found on far side of hide. Weighed 76%, nice large mushroom .

    300 PRC question

It depends on the bullet I guess. I've never been able to capture a bullet in elk shooting 250 grain Sierra boatail hunters.

33 Nosler a GOOD Powerhouse .338 for Hunting???

I just had my 338 Win Mag re-chambered for the 33 Nosler AND I had the gun smith take the "spacer" out of my magazine so I am no longer married to COAL of 3.340" ! The 250gr, Sierra hunting bullet that I used, can now be loaded out to 3.358" and the big advantage is now the VLD bullets like the...

    338 Lapua using ELD-X 270?

I don't have a Lapua, but I did convert my 338 Win Mag to a 33 Nosler and I bought boxes of 230 and 270gr eldx's. My goal is the 270gr eldx for this year's elk season.

Falling snow effects on bullet path:

Does anyone know what effects shooting in in light snow has on bullet travel? Planning on hunting in snowy conditions next week in the mountains of western Wyoming and just concerned that snow must have some detrimental effects on bullet path. I'm thinking it must reduce velocity over long...

    Best Caliber Rifle Elk

All of the above posts suggest rifles that will kill an elk. In fact any legal rifle will kill an elk if you are close enough and have a well placed shot. My suggestion is to get any of the big 30 cal rifles in any brand you like. But use the heaviest bullet for the caliber and don't worry about...

    25-06 Ackley Improved velocities

I wouldn't waste your time rechambering a 25-06 to an Improved version, like AI or Gibbs improved. I had my 25-06 Ruger with a 24" barrel reamed out to 25 Gibbs back in 94 and I could only achieve about 50 to 100fps improvements in velocity with loads that were too hot with over pressure signs...
