Poly Tipped vs VLD bullets for Varminting out to 800 yards

Bullet preference I use the Hornady, Nosler or Sierra tipped bullets at all the ranges you refer to. They open well and do tremendous damage when connecting with squirrels and chucks. Since I use a 223 mostly, you are at or past my max range for caliber, but I like the accuracy and ease of...

    7wsm vs. 280 AI

Tough choice Either the 7WSM or the 280 AI would make a great LR rifle. The short action on the WSM is an advantage for some folks, but personal preference comes into play. I've ownwd both and you'll be happy with either, but the WSM is a little faster and more flexible. Good luck!

    Clicks, I hate clicks.

Ian, Did you get an answer about the cougar? I've tried a few "ideas" that have worked OK that could pass on if you are still looking.

    Stock weight????????

JDHUNTER, Sorry for delay, but board was down & I've been tied up. Lone Wolf stocks run in the $500 area with 2-3 monthe turn around. Bob does a heck of a bed job and they are worth the price.

    Stock weight????????

Unfortunately, the Ti stock is the worse part of the rifle. Mine was made by Bell & carlson. It weighs 2.5 lbs on a Rem SA. I went to a Lone Wolf Stock. Much stronger and weighs only a little over 1 lb. Look them up on the web. I'm not impressed by any of the "factory" LW stocks.

    Zeiss conquest 10x30 binos

Crop Damage, Can't help with some of your problems, but can help with cleaning & fogging. KleerVu anti-fog is endorsed by Leupold for lenses. It really cleans well & stops fogging. I get it at gun shows in the NW, but it is marketed by North American Marketing in Idaho Falls, ID. Do...

    Montana hunt area in NE

Steve, What area are you hunting? MT is a big state and I am trying to zoom in on a general area where terrain and deer population is favorable for LRH. Antler size not critical.

    triple shock (load)

With the weight factor of Barnes TSX, the 180 is equal to a 200 grain regular bullet. Might try the 180 and see how it works. Good luck.

Water damage to powder & primers

Had a small flood in my basement last week & need some advice. "Several" pounds of powder were in the water for several hours and then were exposed to very high humidity as the room dried. Also, primers were never wet, but had the same high humidity exposure. Any comments on status and...

    Rimrock Rifle Stocks

Unfortunately, I've read that their stock is only sold on complete rifles and not as a separate stock. Please post if you find out they are selling stocks only. Everything I've read says they are a great stock. Good luck.

    7mm 150 gr. gameking

270bdl, What are you planning on shooting? Makes a big difference. I've not had the best luck with Sierra bullets except on paper> Great accuracy, so-so performance on game. Pretty explosive at times.

Anybody have any pet loads for .338-06?

You might consider the 185 TSX. Elk will never know the difference and you'll get a little more speed. Good luck.
