    Nice Boar

Nice shot and good job to you raising a young who appreciates hunting! The 25-06 is a great cartridge, I used one to take an Elk in Idaho years ago.

    6.5 PRC "ideal" for antelope?

The 6.5 X 284 gets my vote as about a perfect cartridge. I have taken one at 290 yards with 140 MK and it blew a huge hole, right behind the shoulder. I have also shot them with a 25-06 and 7mm RM, one at 696 yards with the 7. Like has already been said, shot placement is key. Hunting...

    7mm rem mag build

You and I are similar. I Love the 7mm RM and have at least one in the safe for about 20 years. Have shot Muke Deer, Whitetails, and Antelope with the cartridge, one Antelope at 700 yards. I too wanted a light weight rifle and I recently bought a Mauser 18 in 7mm RM. The rifle weighs 6.5...

    What factory rifle?

I have 2 Coopers and shot more, all are very accurate and have a 1/2 in MOA Guarantee. Coopers are as close to custom as you can get without being a full custom build. The only draw back is that if you order one, it may take up to 6 months to see it.

What is everyone favorite caliber for deer?

    I have used anything g from a 223,243,25-06, 6.5x284,7-08,30-06, 7RM, 7RUM,340 WB. Lately I find myself reaching for my 243 or 7RUM.

    Which rifle

I like 7mm's also, my current go to rifle is a Remington 700 SPS in 7mm RUM. Everytime I pull the trigger on game, it goes down, not one step. The 7mm RUM is the most misunderstood modern cartridge. Every manufacturer uses only 26 in barrels, this cartilage needs at least a 28in barrel to...

    First Elk

Nice Elk, you were obviously better prepared than the average elk hunter. A 300 Win Mag is more than adequate, one shot and done! My first elk was with a 25-06 with bullets designed for deer/ antelope. The 117 grain bullets blew up on the way in, needed 2 shots to finish it! I was on a...

    New Cartridge for Hunting?

I really like the 7mm RUM. It is a misunderstood cartridge though. Some overbore cartridges come with 28 in barrels, but not the 7mm RUM. All of the factory 7mm RUM guns with only a 26 in barrel. My next build will be to put a new barrel on my Remington 700, with a 30 in barrel to get all...

    New Cartridge for Hunting?

I had the same itch, I went with a 338 Lapua. My 300 Win, 300 Weatherby and 7 RUM wasn't enough, oh did I mention my 50 BMG! The 338 Lapua has much more range than my 300's, and it weighs about the same.

    Go to 6.5 bullet

I shoot Berger 140 grain VLD Hunting, they shoot great. I got a batch that didn't open up at all on a big mule deer, took 6 shots with my 6.5 x 284 all but the first shot in the lungs, the farthest shot was 200 yards. The year before that I used 142 grain Matchkings in the same gun, it blew...
