Barnes LRX - First Season Impressions

Shot my deer this year with a 175lrx. It died immediately. Tipped over and slid down the canyon. Shot it through the ribs on entrance, and it exited out of the low shoulder. Ruined some of my meat, But was glad to see my buck died instantly.

    Help with a drop chart....

Following. Interested to see what you go with. When developing a chart for my 300wm, my drop chart called for more than was needed in the first 300yds. But once i got out to 450-500yds, the drop chart was spot on. If posible, maybe try a further range to see if something similar happens.

zeroing in on my 300WM hunting load

Shot the 81.5gr and 82gr again today. 10rds of each. 81.5gr had better groups and lower SD so thats what i am going to run with. Hovering at 3250fps. Loaded up several more rounds with different seating depths to hopefully fine tune a bit more. Looking forward to the upcoming hunting season!

zeroing in on my 300WM hunting load

Yeah A zone is super hot, tail end of B zone should be quite cooler though. I was happy with how the factory ammo shot out of my new 300wm. However, theres just something in me that enjoys making ammo, testing it, and finding something that could potentially work even better. Just wish i got an...

zeroing in on my 300WM hunting load

If i could hunt with a lead bullet i probably would. Some of those hornady, sierra, and berger bullets shoot great in my other target guns. The barnes factory ammo has shot wel for the most part, but leaves a lot to be desired as far as BC goes.

zeroing in on my 300WM hunting load

Thanks tim. Yeah both the higher and lower node are shooting great. I have little 1" orange dots i use for my load development and a couple of these loads, im just stacking em in there. Fast and accurate with no pressure to speak of yet. Having to hunt with copper just throws a wrench in my...

zeroing in on my 300WM hunting load

Thanks for the response, I know ramshot magnum isnt listed on barnes newer published data. I do however have what i believe is older data that lists the 175lrx and that powder. The powder seems to burn very clean, and is shooting well from what i am gathering. Their testing shows a 24" barrel...

zeroing in on my 300WM hunting load

Ive been doing a lot of reading and testing with my new 300wm I bought for hunting. Found a lot of useful info on here, but still have some questions I could use some input on. Ive had great success shooting steel out to 500 with barnes factory ammo, so if all else fails, ill use that for this...
