    Competitive Shooting

Over the years, PPC, Bulleye, NRA Action Pistol, 3 Gun, trap, skeet, USPSA, and IDPA. It's pretty much just the last two the past 5-6 years. But I shoot several times a month.

What is the perfect 300 Yard Deer Cartridge with low recoil?

I used that load in one of my 16" guns I shoot in 3 gun. It wasn't a long shot but the wound channel was way beyond what I expected from a .223. If I hadn't known what it was shot with, I would have guessed 6.5-30 cal. I recovered the bullet and it was just like the Barnes ads. Perfect...

That ONE gun you sold that you wish you wouldn't have?

I have several. But probably the #1 regret is selling my S&W M19 357 mag. I bought it new in 1981 when I went into Law Enforcement. I switched departments a few years later and had to carry their issue handgun. Thinking I no longer had a use for it, I sold my M19 to a good friend who was...

What is the perfect 300 Yard Deer Cartridge with low recoil?

I have been doing it with a 6.5 Grendel with 120 gr Federal Fusion ammo the past 4 years. In an AR pistol with a 12" Faxon barrel. It just works.. I had one run about 20 yards, one about 70 yds, and two, including the one in the picture, drop where hit. It shoots sub MOA at 300.

    Detachable Magazine for Hunting?

I have rifles in both configuration and prefer the DBM.. Loading and unloading is quicker and easier. Less chance of fumbling or dropping rounds. And the tips of the bullets seem to get less dinged up. The little bit of added bulk and weight isn't an issue to me. I have never...

    Rocky or Danner

I have never had a pair of Rockys that didn't have the heal separate and make a popping noise. I have had several pairs of Danners of various styles, including the Pronghorns. They served me well for years. Best boots for comfort and durability have been Kennetreks.

    270 Win, which bullet weight?

The Ballistic Tips will do whatever you need on deer size game and smaller. Play with other bullets if you want but keep a supply of the loaded BT ammo to fall back on. So far, performance of the 143gr ELD-X in my 6.5 hasn't impressed me.

    Sub Sonic load for 308?

8 gr Titegroup with a 168 SMK gives 1080 fps according to the Hodgdon manual. 8 gr Clays gets 1060 fps with the same bullet.

    2022 AZ ELK Draw

I just applied for points again this year. If I can stay healthy, I will apply for an actual tag next year and hopefully get to burn those 24 points.

    AR10... 6.5 or .308?

I have both, a Critterion 22” HB 6.5 CM and a couple of 308s with 16” and 18” barrels. The 6.5 shoots a bit softer but it also weighs a lot more. It is also a bit flatter. My 18” 308 is ammo picky but my 16” shoots everything well or better. The 16” also o my has a large muzzle brake ( I...

    6.5 creedmore

Maybe your lack of understanding has to do with the fact that you think it is a .243.

    Gun Recommendation after shoulder surgery

I have had 3 shoulder surgeries, 2 left and one right. I had my right shoulder rebuilt after a treestand incident at age 64. Rotator cuff and both anterior and posterior labrum were torn. The bicep tendon was also torn loose and needed to be reattached. I am right handed and found shooting...

    Sheep hunting Boot recommendations

I have a pair of Kenetrek boots that are 12 yrs old. They listed for $355 back then. They have been abused in CO, WY, and NM chasing elk, mulies, and antelope. Great ankle support and very comfortable. They barely show wear and have gone across many miles of mountainsides with sharp rocks...

    0-600 300 win bullets

What works in my Remington 700 300 WM with a factory barrel are 180 gr Barnes TSX. I would have to dig out the exact charge but I know it is with H4350 and velocity is 3040 fps. It will shoot a 3/4" group at 200 if I do my part.

    In between 7mm-08 & .308

Just put on a good muzzle brake. That will tame recoil considerably and make follow up shots much quicker. I like a Rolling Thunder brake although it is really loud. All my 308s have brakes of some sort and there is a big difference.
