    Howdy from OK

    Hello back from another Okie!

    Burris Scope Question

I've always had great success with Burris as a hunter. I have a 3-9 Fulfield on my .243 deer rifle and the 4.5-14 version on my old 300WM elk rifle. I've killed many, many elk and deer looking through a Burris scope. If not having a $1000+ scope means you can't bag your game, you've got bigger...

    what reloading kit?

RCBS is good gear. I second getting rid of their powder measure, and if you don't go automated look seriously at the Redding BR-30 measure - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/746135/redding-competition-br-30-powder-measure RCBS and Redding are my preference, Redding dies are the best. I had an...

Yep, going to be the safest bet. I'll stay within my limits and pass it off. Thanks!

    Too much powder...

Great catch! Just looked it up, TTSX is 1.48"; TSX is 1.389" - 0.11" longer looks to be my problem. That's what I was missing...I appreciate it. Back to the bench!!!

    Too much powder...

The rifle has nothing to do with it. I neglected to mention in my original question that the Barnes data calls for a COAL of 2.825 on this load. My COAL needs to be 2.930 to be .02" off the lands, but with all of that powder, I can only seat 2.945 which obviously isn't going to work. It doesn't...

    SOLD/EXPIRED WTB Reloader 19, 22, H1000 and Retumbo

Found a bunch of 19 and Retumbo in a local shop here in central OK. Also, I was in Tulsa today; they have a ton of primers, CCI and Win at Bass Pro.

    I dunnit now.

I wanted to do a little trigger work on my new FN TSR XP 300 WSM, so I set out to pull the stock off. The bolts were really tight from the factory, this was the first chance I've had to tear it down all the way. So I held some good steady pressure on the front bolt, and learned not to use the...

    Too much powder...

So I'm not sure what I'm missing. Working on a load for my .300 WSM using Barnes TTSX 180gr bullets, RL 19 in new Win brass FL sized and trimmed. Pulled the load data off Barnes' website, max load shows to be 69.5. I reduced to 69.0 to start with, planning to step down half a grain at a time...

How "important" are certain details when reloading?

Works for me, I've never gone to those lengths to squeeze every last bit of accuracy. Good to know it's nominal at best.

How "important" are certain details when reloading?

From what I understand, it's a volume thing. Separating cases into equally weighing groups should keep the interior capacity relatively consistant. If I weighed out 100 cases, I'd take the largest group of the same weight (+/- a tenth of a grain or so) and use those for load development. I...

How "important" are certain details when reloading?

When developing a load, the more things are consistent, the easier a time you'll have at finding that honey load. I'd sort out the longest cases, all being either new or once fired and trim them all to the trim to length. You can always use the shorter ones for production, they'll be...

    FNG Okie

...My current LR project is an FN TSR XP in .300 WSM, looking through SWFA SS 10x42. They released the new SWFA variable 3-15 (?? +/-) a few weeks after I bought the 10x, so I'm already due for an upgrade. This will be my primary elk rifle, and part time far-away-bad-guy-buster. I've worked...

    FNG Okie

I was an 11C mortarman, although I did my share of walking. I'm a hunter, former competitor (silhouettes and clays). I have buddies in various lines of work that share in their fun, so if the SHTF, I'm in good company! But it helps to have a place to go for the non-issued equipment or reloading...
