To brake or not to brake...

I was at the point of giving up my 300 RUM. I put on a muscle brake and now the recoil is gone. I love my RUM now. I use amplified electronic muffs when hunting anyway. They help overcome my hearing loss. v/r rch

    Exercise for arthritic knees?

Look into the new generation "electronic assist" bicycles (ebikes). I am 68 y/o ex-SF army with all the accompanying baggage (knees, back, elbows, shoulders all fubar to one degree or another). I now have an e-assist mountain bike and spend hours in the countryside. It feels great to be...

    .300 Norma magnum for hunting??

308 Win VS 300 Norma Magnum discussion: Guess it depends on what one means by hunting. Is your hunting at 50 yards in the pine thickets or aspen groves? Will your shot be taken at 700 yards across a valley? To me because this is a Long Range Hunting forum and I would probably think I would...

    Hunting Rifle MOA Rant

Defining hunting definitions changes my view. My rock-locked patch balled shooting black powder rifle is deadly accurate within bow hunting ranges and I can generally first shot out kill a bow and arrow hunter at 40 yards (if it's not raining and the pan doesn't fail). My iron-sighted 1895...

    6mm Creedmoor Velocities?

So 3050 is about it for the 105 Berger, 108 Hornady, 110 sierra? My ballistics tables show that this velocity will stay supersonic till the 1300 yard mark. Certainly better than my 308 with the 175 SMKs. I could maybe get another 50 FPS (24" barrel) but to what end I guess. Thanks to all that...

    6mm Creedmoor Velocities?

I am loading my unmodified 6mm Creedmoor Ruger Precision Rifle with the 108gr Match, 110 SMK's, and 87gr VMAX's. With the 108's I am running an AVG VEL of 3050 +/- using Starline SRP brass. This exceeds the factory ammo by a touch. The accuracy is good, the SD and ED not so much. I am...

You know, this forum provides me contact with shooters that ARE shooters. Brent M. I will take a look. I have dragged a bucket of stuff around for a long time, and each time something doesn't work for me, I pass it along to another shooter to let them give it a try. The bipod buddy will...

    Wrong rings sent-height question?

The lower the rings, the less chance for cant and for me, the better the cheek weld. Keep the glass off the barrel of course. Just my 2 cents. rch

Sent in rifle for service one year ago - still working on it

I own one Cooper built in 2012 and am very pleased with it. I too am watching your story unfold because companies can change management and/or management philosophy and the customers are left holding a really ugly bag. I hope this is an oversight that does not reflect on their product. Cooper...

I don't know about a knock off, but, you know us old guys talk to each other. I have shown the double cross to at least 8 other 66+ y/o shooters and a few young guys (under 60) in the last two weeks. Four of them took turns passing it back and forth from bench to bench right there on the...

Muzzle Brake Issue on 338 Edge

After working with members of this forum, I ordered a 4 port non-magnum Muscle Brake for my 300 Rum. Night and Day. It beat me to death for almost 10 years before I gave in and put a brake on it. Now it is a real ***** cat and can be shot off a bench like a target rifle. The brake works that...

I thought I was going to have to come back and rewrite my opinion of the Buddy Bipod Small Double Cross that I bought. I went to the range on Sunday to chrono some hotter loads for my RUM. I set up with my bipod and I found myself shooting horizontal and vertical strings. It could have been...

I am 66 years old. I have been fighting the "rear bag" wars for a long time (maybe 40 years). Anytime I am off the bench, it has been stacked bags, rolled jackets, a fisted hand on top of a stack of rocks.... You get the idea. Recently I saw a thread that talked about a rear rest made by a...

    Ruger Precision Rifle

IMHO, the 6.5 Creedmore will give you a fine 1000 yard cartridge for match shooting and a good 600 yard deer cartridge. I am sure somebody will tell you they have taken Elk with it (6.5 x 55 has been used to kill a lot of game over the years). I have a .260 Rem for 1000 yard fun matches...

New Rear Rest - I like it!!

I have been looking for a real solution to the rear bag wars. I have two 9 - 13 inch bipods and have always ended up "stacking" rear bags, jackets, and anything else I could think of. I will now look at these rather than going to a mono-pod type solution. Thanks to all that offered info...
