What do you guys bring for bipod, shooting sticks, tripod, etc. on backpack hunts?

Re: What do you guys bring for bipod, shooting sticks, tripod, etc. on backpack hunts I always keep my harris bipod on my gun and never think about taking it off. I have been trying to cut weight where ever I can for my upcoming elk trip, but think I am going to bite the bullet and haul in my...

    tikka t3 270 OAL

The only thing I can think of is they might be a touch more expensive. I remember reading that the early barnes bullets fouled the barrel excessively, but the new design with the grooves has helped with that. I like the fact that they are accurate and retain almost all of their weight after...

    tikka t3 270 OAL

54.5 grains of H4350, 0.060 jump to the lands, barns ttsx are lights out in my tikka 270. I played around with accubonds but aborted that experiment when I saw the groups were not even close to the barnes groups.

    pictures

I had a post typed up and want to post a pic saved on my computer. I have since deleted that post because it was worthless without the pic. Is there an easy way to insert a pic saved on your computer.

Do you use an adjustable cheekpiece on your rifle?

I just added a Karsten adjustable cheek piece to my rifle and love it. It is so nice to rest your cheek and be looking perfectly through the scope every time. I also think it helped me to shoot my tightest groups yet at the range today.

    testing reloads

I finally found a combination that gave me a sub minute of angle group. I shot a 0.610 4 shot group from 100 yards with 54.5 grains of H4350 and a 130 grain barnes ttsx seated 0.060 off the lands. I am pleased I got a decent group because that is the bullet I was hoping to shoot for my mule...

    testing reloads

Thanks for the reply Mike. I was shooting a round every minute or two the last time I went out. I noticed that one of my groups formed a perfect 45 degree line with the first shot at the lower left and later shots moving up and to the right by nearly the same distance each time. I was reading...

    testing reloads

I loaded 6 groups of rounds with different seating depths. There are four bullets in each group. I am going to the range to test them this weekend and want to limit other factors that effect the accuracy besides the seating depth. A). How long do you wait between shots or groups to reduce the...

    just curious

Part of the fun of starting to reload is trying to figure out why things are the way they are. According to my measurements using the hornaday oal gauge and bullet comparator the shortest jump to the lands I can achieve with a barnes 130 grain ttsx while still fitting in the magazine is .010...

    jump to lands

I fear I am quickly becoming the annoying rookie who asks too many questions. I appreciate all of the replies I have recieved so far. I took some previous advice and bought a hornaday oal gauge and bullet comparator. I loaded a bullet that would just fit into my magazine and compared its...

    OAL consistency

I was making some 270 cartriges with 130 grain nosler accubonds. I had the bullet seating die set so that most of the cartriges were 3.340 +- .001. Every few bullets would be up to +- .008. Is this most likely due to a difference in the tips of the bullet or am I doing something wrong. I...

    help

I bought the Lee three die set. I was using the neck sizing die and followed the directions that came with them. Screwed the die down until it contacted the shell holder. Screwed the die down and additional 1 1/4 turn. Held press down with 25 lbs of force.

    help

After running my cases through my neck sizing die and filling them with powder I went to start a bullet and found I was able to push it all the way down with my fingers. I dumped the powder, removed the primers and ran them through the neck sizing die with a little more vigor. It definately...

    130 grain accubonds with H4831???

I bought some 130 grain accubonds and H4831 to load some rounds for my tikka 270. I have a little book that has load info from various brand bullet and powder makers specifically for a 270. I am a bit puzzled at the following info I found in it. Nosler- 130 g accubond - H4831 - max load 56.5...
