thinking of buying a new gun

DwRuger - The short actions are the "16" series while the "116" is the long actions. Don't get those confused. The 16 short actions are for the WSM Rifles up to the 300 WSM only. The 116FSS is a long action for .270's and up 338 Win Mag & 300 Ultra Mag. You need to look closely at what you...

thinking of buying a new gun

DwRuger - I just bought a Savage Model 116FSS in 7mm Rem. Mag. I spent the last month researching and asking a lot of questions on this forum and many others. I received very good input from the folks here and elsewhere. I compared all the Mfr's, Rem. Weatherby, Win., Sako, etc. and settled...

7mm Rem. Mag vs. .308 Winchester

Well, I ordered my new 7mm Rem. Mag. today. Savage Model 116 in Stainless. Now I'm looking for a nice scope and will probably have the stock replaced with a McMillan. Thanks for all the input, it helped in my decision process. [ 01-19-2004: Message edited by: T. Ray ]

7mm Rem. Mag vs. .308 Winchester

Darryl, if one could tame the recoil of the .300 (i.e., Muzzlebrake & Pachymar Decelerator Pad), wouldn't it be prudent to go with the .300 and get the extra "umph" if ever needed? Doesn't the .300 have more cartridge and loading options than the 7mm? [ 01-17-2004: Message edited by: T. Ray ]

Getting Closer - SAVAGE Model 116 FSAK

I posted earlier about the 7mm Rem. Mag by Weatherby and Remington. I mentioned I leaned toward the Weatherby as my preferred rifle. As I research further I am really liking the Savage. It has a free floating, dual pillar bedded, button rifled barrel with an adjustable muzzle brake. I also...

7mm Rem. Mag vs. .308 Winchester

I'm new to this forum but prowl many others. I am about to purchase a new rifle. I was leaning toward the Weatherby Mark V in 7mm Rem. Mag. but I was not real happy about the weight,8-3/4 pounds w/out scope & mounts - 26" barrel. I can get the same rifle in .308 Win. weighing in @ 7-1/4...
