I need some help from the reloading gurus.

That's weird. The second quote in Mikes post is not me.

I need some help from the reloading gurus.

It was just a light hearted comment about me not having any videos on youtube. As far as brass prep goes, the only thing I do is run virgin brass over a mandrel.

Barrel break in true or not?

If you have a good barrel and a good gunsmith, there is no reason to perform some sort of break in procedure. Just go shoot, get some zeroes, if it is is new caliber, do a little preliminary load development, if not check your existing loads. The 'wearing in/breaking in' will take care of...

    SAAMI New Cartridges Approved

It's actually been on the drawing board for awhile. We made prototype reamers for it two or three years ago. I do think it's interesting that they're claiming a slightly heavier bullet at slightly faster speeds with slightly lower pressure's versus the Buckhammer.

    Interpreting SAAMI Specs

Yes. It is normal among SAAMI specs for max cartridge headspace to exceed minimum chamber headspace. Keep in mind that there is a significant gap at the other extreme, from min cartridge to max chamber. I specifically asked a couple of the SAAMI engineers about this at last years SHOT Show and...

    Cantilever mounts?

It depends on on your body and how you fit to the rifle. Being taller, I generally need the scope mounted farther forward, which allows me to be comfortable on the stock. A cantilever mount on an AR is not bad. The scopes tend to be smaller. On a rifle with a longer, heavier scope, I want to...

    Barrel swapping

Action manufacturers may have specs for their various creations, but I am unaware of any general or universal spec

    Barrel swapping

You or may not need separate gages for it. If it is simply a 243 Win necked down to 22 cal, then standard .308 headspace gages are the correct gages. On the other hand, if the 22-243 larjon chamber shoulder has been moved or the shoulder angle changed to something different than the .243...

Anyone ever use a Meplat Trimmer?

You could do it with an optical comparator of sufficient magnification. You could do it much faster with machine vision. You could get a fair proxy measurement by making something similar to a BGC that registers the ogive on a datum close to the meplat and then measuring the distance from...

    284win help

There is no freebore. The throat* is all leade. It is actually quite long. An equivelent throat, with a .2845 dia freebore and 1.5 degree leade would have freebore length around .220 +\-. It is hard to know exactly because a bullet will intercept the 47 minute leade differently than it would a...

    284win help

Not everything, I learn new stuff every day at work. I think it is safe to say the we make more custom variations of the 284 Win than any other reamer.

    Freebore Discussion

I believe you are describing 'jump'. Freebore is a cylindrical section of the throat between the chamber neck and the Leade. The bullet moves freely through it because it is (usually) slightly over bullet diameter.
