    Chrnograph question

Are the velocities you listed for five individual rounds, shown in the sequence fired? If so, your results may have nothing to do with diffusers. Typically, your velocities will increase as the barrel warms up. How long did you wait between shots?

Need advice: drop at different elevations

Buffalobob, I don't mean to argue with you, but I don't understand your answer. Presuming no change in temperature and muzzle velocity, trajectory is a bit flatter at higher elevations. A simple ballistics program I use says, going from 1000 ft to 6000 ft MSL, the POI changes about 5 inches...

    Seating depth question for NAB

I don't know what's normal, but I seat my .270 and .300 WM NAB's at ten thousandths off the lands. I can't tell much difference if I change it, either.

    loading for the temperature

Ditto. Another thought... Reduced velocity at lower temperatures can change more than just trajectory. Barrel harmonics can affect group size and POI. jmason's idea of using a charge that's at the high end of the node sounds like a reasonable approach, but the only way to tell for sure...

Cull Bull or Cow Hunts interested?

Eddybo, I haven't seen a new post here in a couple of days. Is this hunt still on? How many tags, total, are available for this ranch? How many hunters will be on the ranch during the dates you mentioned?

    Temp sensitivity of powders

I concur with what AJ and eddybo said. Basically, warmer temperatures will create higher pressures and higher velocities. Changes in velocity can cause changes in barrel harmonics, which can cause changes in POI. If you are still within the "node" or "sweet spot" for your particular rifle and...

Cull Bull or Cow Hunts interested?

I am definitely interested in two spots. I see several "maybes" backing out. Do you know how many spots you have left? If we sign up for a cull bull, can we take a cow instead, if things don't work out? Can you be more specific on the location; nearest town, name of the ranch..? Any idea on...

    Is this common? SMK

I admit I don't have any experience with the SMK and I'll probably get all kinds of grief from others on this forum for saying this. I am constantly amazed by folks who talk about using the SMK for hunting because it shoots tight groups at the range. The SMK is a target bullet, not a hunting...

    Neck sizing with FL dies

You can "partial-resize" by raising the resizing die up off the shell holder a bit. This will usually resize the neck (or most of it) and only lightly touch the body, depending on the cartridge and how high the die is set.

    Terminal Balistics

It could take a book to answer your question. First, same diameter does not equal same terminal ballistics. Terminal ballistics usually means the effect of the bullet on the target. Energy equals mass times the square of the velocity, so in simple terms, twice the mass (weight) at the same...

    243 Win - Varmints (coy) & Targets

I agree with LeftyM77. My .243 with a 1:9.25 twist handles 55 gr BT's just fine at 3750 fps. It also shoots 100 gr bullets just as well. Question to anyone: Will a slower twist give the light bullets more velocity? By how much?

    Remove Stock---will it change zero

I always re-check my zero after removing the stock. Most of the time, POI will not change or change only slightly, but there are lots of variables, and I would hate for something to get way out of whack and not know it. If my rifle gets very wet while hunting, I will disassemble, dry, clean...
