    Savage Impulse Hog hunter 300win

It’s hard to change something that works. My 6mm ackley reamer finally came in so my factory 243 barrel is about to get rechambered for a fire form barrel! I wish they’d make extensions commercially available, I’d like the rifle even more.

    Savage Impulse Hog hunter 300win

Man thanks for the follow up. I bought an impulse last fall on a clearance sale from brownells and absolutely love it. I never fired the factory barrel though, got it, pulled the factory tube off (not fun- I believe they’re red locktited on so plenty of heat) and put on a proof research I had...

    Hunting with and without suppressor?

I put a Cole tac 7.5” cover on my S-Ti! It’s slightly longer but the .25” over hang protects the ends in my mind. Thats the can I was referring to that gets mirage from one shot on a 300 win mag or wsm. I’d never hunt without a cover on it for that reason. Not to mention the shiny, raw finish...

    Hunting with and without suppressor?

Most definitely get a suppressor cover. It will protect any finish on the can, and more importantly eliminate mirage for follow up shots. My titanium cans get bad mirage with one shot without a cover. Also, if you’re in brush or timber the cover will muffle sounds if the suppressor comes in...

    Barrel chambering training

You guys are the best. I shoulda consulted yall sooner! I did get a tool post in the auction as well, an aloris bxa I believe. Gunsmiths are short in my area, but I have befriended one local who has been willing to let me assist him while he’s working on my stuff. His work is far from pretty...

    Barrel chambering training

I got a copy of the original sales ticket from Grizzly, says the model number is 14-40vs. Delivered in Jan of 1998. It has a Baldor adjustable speed drive on it, and all components appear to be domestic! What I can't figure out is the college has it labeled as being wired 240 volt, and the...

    Barrel chambering training

Here it is set in my business partners shop! Of course the pan and shields are still removed from transport. Can’t wait to get it turning!

    Barrel chambering training

Thank you Len! It is what you’re thinking of. Friend of mine sent me the auction, apparently no one else knew about it. Being from a junior college machine shop, it looks brand new. Working on getting it wired in, it’s variable speed and was originally 460 3 phase, but it appears the college...

    Barrel chambering training

I just bought my first lathe and might be interested in some of these. I do have a corner full of junk barrels I can practice on, however. Still getting the lathe wired in and collecting necessary tooling. Lucked out and got a 14x40 south bend turnado tool room lathe from an Amarillo college...

    Texas Outfitters for whitetail

Do you want to hunt low fence or high? The Texas outfitter market is saturated with guys who are a joke. Was in the bussiness up until a year ago, decided I didn’t want to mess with whitetail anymore. Also, is there a region you’d like to hunt? Lots of different scenery options!

    Texas Fires!

We’re in south Randall county so have been fortunate to have been untouched by the fires so far. I’ve got plenty of friends and family north of me who’ve evacuated or lost everything though. Some just lost all their pasture, some lost their homes and are still gathering up what’s left of their...

Is a 1:10 twist 243 win a one load coyote gun????

Growing up all we had were a couple 243s. Dads hammered hundreds of deer with a Remington 788 with what ever box of 100 grain ammo was cheapest at wal mart. I’m not sure on the twist rate of that rifle though. I’ve had 3 others that were 1-10, confirmed. Favorite bullets are 85 and 100 grain...

    35 whelen

I now have 2 friends that have bought the new ruger Hawkeye African 35 whelen. My understanding is this is a very limited run of rifles, which makes sense because the wood on both is a very high grade walnut. The rifles are absolutely beautiful.
