Whats the farthest you would hunt big game, using this combination? I plan on using 168SMK ( I get them cheaper the the 175grain )for practice, and TSX for hunting. But, Im not sure how far I could shoot, and still get resonable expansion. Any ideas? Animals: Moose: x yards? Elk: x yards...

Looks almost the same as something Im thinking of, just a 458 caliber, and a different case. A 458 Lapua.. shooting 400 grains at 2700fps.

Allright.. its for hunting. Whats the biggest animal you hunt with a long range rifle? Elk? Moose? Sheep? Is a 30. cal enough for the biggest animals you would hunt? Or, where goes the limmit for choosing a 338 over a 30 caliber? And I handload!

284 win, using Lapua 6.5x284, shoot 162 grain A-max at 3000fps. Get a 28" barrel. Oh, and since the barrel will last you up to 3000 rounds, buy them in bulk. You will get a better price!
