What is the most hated deer rifle you owned ?

You certainly traded up. My Dad had a Winchester mod. 100 that neither shot well but also was the devil to load for. I have a Remington 740 that shoots much better but I keep it because it shoots reloads without fail without small base dies. My expectations of how I could tighten up my groups...

What is the most hated deer rifle you owned ?

I started out with a 7.65 Argentine Mauser that was "sporterized" at age 12-13. It was not very accurate, nor was I at that age, but I have never had a gun that I hated. Some are better shooters than others but I enjoyed them all and learned things along the way.

How Much energy is too little?

I'm right there with you and a year older both in age and when you started hand loading. There is more than energy alone that makes a cartridge good. We know over the years our experiences that tell us what expect. I think there are more knowledgeable people on this medium and others than...

    Garmin Xero C1 Pro

Yes, I just got a promotion for this product yesterday. I have looked at chronographs since the late 70s but never had one. At this point in my life I don't know that I ever will, but also at this point I try to tie all the technology to drops on shooting apps and might find it interesting...

    Labradar accurate or hype?

Interesting question to me. I don't have a chronograph but use Strelok to give me a ballpark estimate of velocity by drop. It has a true data feature but I am not sure how to use it. I assume you basically shoot other distances for drop, enter that by playing with velocities until that...

    Another Scam Alert

I have also seen these "going out of business" scams on FB and reported them to FB; they don't do a thing about them but still want to warn you as to my misinformation or quibble about a word or context. It is nice to communicate and share pictures with your family and friends but all the...

Found Primers but are they too much $$$

It reminds me a lot of buying gasoline now. The price doesn't drop or rise just pennies anymore, it's more like 20 cents. Reloading components, especially powder or primers if available, are also going the same way. Politics is much of it and I don't see a big or bright future for newer ones...

Found Primers but are they too much $$$

That is a good price right now and don't delay when they are available. Large rifle and large pistol seem to be the least available. Most of the reputable dealers I have bought from have notifications to let you know when a product is in. Right now if you need something you had better think...

Thoughts On Oregon & Washington As Hunting States

This information is from the 2023 Washington big game regulations for elk and Turnbull drawings with an eastside tag (WA requires you pick Westside (Roosevelt) or Eastside (Rocky Mountain) for elk. Turnbull is an Eastside tag. Bull elk: 1 Quality bull elk - Archery/ML/Modern firearm. 3 Spike...

Thoughts On Oregon & Washington As Hunting States

Yes they are and just like any other state that happens in any college town or larger city where they are more apt to be all the goods services those people seem to require. Not saying being close to groceries or medical facilities is not a good idea as I have gotten to the age where my heart...

Thoughts On Oregon & Washington As Hunting States

Idaho is having its own population explosion and predator problems but it fills all your goals but being 5 hours to the coast. I recall a comment in an outdoor magazine several years ago where the question was why didn't they cover much hunting in Washington state and the answer was even though...

Handloading - How Many and How Long?

I started in 1969 with a Lyman 310 tool in 30-06 and upgraded to an RCBS Jr. press in 72 which came with dies and shell holder new for under $30. Since then I have loaded for about a dozen or so different calibers and gauges. It has been a fun journey and education with a lot of satisfaction...

Found Primers but are they too much $$$

I have seen and bought primers from Brownells and Natchez for $89-99. Availability seems to be mostly small rifle and small pistol, but you can put in a request for others when they become available. And if they do a free shipping or waive the hazmat fee that saves a little as well. I waited...

Can 308 do everything you need a rifle to do under 600 yards?

At 600 yards and under you are well served as you are. I am an 06 shooter since age 16 that would not hesitate to shoot 400-500 yards after ranging. Never had an opportunity to practice any farther than that. You do not need another caliber with you doing your part and a good gun.
