Do you use your hand loads to get on paper?

First I run the scope elevation and windage knobs full travel to verify the adjustment range then center both settings. Next I pull the bolt and carefully bore sight the scope at 25 yards. Then I fire one carefully placed shot, measure the required adjustment, and dial in the adjustment. Then I...

    30 Cal Mag for Hunting

I've been shooting a 300 Win Mag loaded with 180 gr Nosler Partitions over IMR 7828 or RL19 at around 3,000 fps for a long time and never saw any need to improve on that performance. Not that I don't like a new pretty face.... but need more? Not so much.

    Saw for cutting down brass??

I left out a few details: I use a fixture to set the length of cut and use an electric screwdriver to run the case trimmer and to turn the necks. I’m pretty fond of my fingers too😎

    Saw for cutting down brass??

I’ve used the mini chop saw to cut down 223 brass to reform to 222. Really fast but I leave it a little bit long and finish on my Forster Case Trimmer. Works great.

Opinions on optimal magnification for hunting out West

I really like my 2.5-10 X 42. I'm 74 and my vision's not as good as it was when I was a young helicopter pilot. I don't like to take shots much over 400 yards as they tend to involve dragging the carcass down and uphill a lot and 400 yds seems to be adequate for my needs. I also have...

    Fire starting material

I’ve used old 100% cotton diapers soaked in melted paraffin. Tear or cut to a convenient size (I like 3x4) and stack with strike anywhere matches between the layers to protect from moisture. Add a couple of pieces of sand paper and wrap the whole package in aluminum foil. One diaper and one box...

    Warning - Winchester 17HMR ammo

I had this issue with my Ruger American and Winchester 20 gr 17 HMR rounds. I was trying out Winchester 20gr and CCI 17 gr rounds. About 1 out of 5 Winchester rounds split at the neck. I didn’t have the dramatic results that others have had but I’ve never bought another Winchester product and...

I messed up and sized my hornady oal case.

I load for 7 cartridges 222 thru 338 so I ordered the drill and tap and spent a pleasant hour with a friend at his lathe and made two of each cartridge. All made with brass fire formed to my rifles and I still have the tools in case I go nuts and buy a 6.5 CM or something. ;>)

    Portable tables

I’m tight on space in our downsized retirement so I made a folding bench out of 3/4” plywood on a cheap Harbor Freight copy of a Workmate. There are some plans for it on the internet. As long as I use a separate table for weighing powder it works fine on everything from 222 Rem to 338 WM. I’ve...

Is it worth it to put the money into a rem 788?

I’ve been shooting a 222 Rem flavored 788 since i picked it up in the 70’s. Other than putting a scope and sling on it I’ve left it stock. It still shoots tiny groups and, though occasionally tempted, I’ve never felt the need to upgrade the stock or barrel. However, if I ever find another 788...

    CBTO Measuring in a 70's Sako L61R

Hi Guys. I've just started using a comparator to work up a couple of loads and right off the bat I've got an interesting result. I'm 74 and have been reloading for 50 years or so since I started with a Lee Loader for a Mauser Sporter in 308. I've been interested in setting up for longer...
