Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

Yep !! On all counts... Just remember that other manufacturers were also working on their own versions of high pressure rifle platforms using proprietary cartridges. This is the future...like it or not. In a couple decades there will be rifles sold that can handle these high pressures. Nothing...

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

You are correct that a 270 WSM will match the performance of the .277 Fury. The only advantages to the hunting community is. Advantages: 1) Shorter case allowing the longer, higher BC bullets to still fit in a a short action magazine. 2) New, faster powders will allow a shorter barrel for the...

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

I know exactly what he’s saying... Balliistic’s wise nothing much has changed since the 80’s. Good brass and new efficient powders make those old cartridges shine. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t push the envelope with new tech... This is a cartridge designed for the military just like the 308 win...

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

You can’t compare your handloaded ammo to off the shelf cartridges.... Plus we are talking a short action here...Apples to oranges comparison. But I get it. It’s all about what works for you and your 270 win offers similar ballistics, so why change?

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

There are barrel treatments and materials to combat throat erosion. I think you will also have to consider that easily removable barrels will likely be the way to go for the Fury as opposed to the classic screwed on action type of barrel.

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

Well actually for the military it really is about the speed too!. The new lightweight body armor that Russia and China have developed for their military requires a higher velocity to get thru it. From what I understand It’s in the vicinity of 3000 fps ithat’s needed to get the job done..... and...

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

Although I agree with the notion of faster twists lead to better stabilization. It is the caliber diameter and bearing surface length of the bullet as well as the muzzle velocity that dictates the correct twist rate. The construction of the bullet can also often dictate the max spin rate...

Sounds like we need to take a Hammer to it!! :p

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

Yes, it will take a few years to sort all this out at the handloaders level. A 270 WSM will do everything ballistically the same as a .277 Fury. The big advantage that is really attractive to me is that the .277 fury will give us WSM/SAUM performance in a 4” shorter barrel and I will then run...

Sig wins contract with the 277 fury

Here is some info I do know about this cartridge 1) Don’t expect the .277 Fury to be available untill mid to late fall. ( delayed due to CV19 ) 2) The new Sig Cross rifle should be available by mid to late summer In 308 Win or 6.5 Creedmore. 3) The cartridge will be capable to be reloaded...

What do you think about using VV565 or R26 for a Shermanator 7.

    What’s flatter 6.5PRC or 280ai??

Totally agree with you on the 156 EOL in the 6.5. It gets the job done with much less drama over the bigger 7mm's. It's getting really hard to justify a 7 SAUM or 280AI with what the 6.5's can now do... Especially if you plan to use a bigger caliber rifle for elk on up.

    What’s flatter 6.5PRC or 280ai??

When you buy into a a super magnum you are in reality buying it for extending your range. Same bullet going faster = more range. It's not about energy... The bullet design dictates its terminal performance for it's given intended speed range. Keep the bullet in that range for best terminal...

    What’s flatter 6.5PRC or 280ai??

Little apples to oranges comparison?? You are comparing the best in class bc 135 6.5 A-tip to a 168 VLD HUNTING bullet. If you were to use the 7MM 162 ELD match bulletin in your comparison, you would find that the windage is virtually the same out to 750 yards with half the drop. At these...

    Long Range Copper Bullets

I know the OP mentioned a custom 7mm Rem but he failed to mention the length and twist of the barrel. All very important info in order to give him a good bullet recommendation... All high BC copper bullets will require faster twists. Now if the OP is running a 1:8 twist and a 26" barrel, I...
