    rebarreling a mauser

Since the 1950s, 6os and 70s so many 98 Mauaers have been rebarreld and make a great addition to your collection. I rebarreld many. The proper actions work great. I still use my 338 win mag. With a federal barrel. They used to be very inexpensive and really nice wood stocks. Accuracy is very...

Any Stock Finishers here ? I have a couple questions

Great looking stock. I started gunsmithing back in the 1970s and finished many stocks. I would use a damp cloth and wipe it down. That would raise the grain not real wet. Allow to dry. Then 0000, steel wool. To smooth. I use multiple coats of Tru-oil using my fingers. Do several coats when...

IMR 4831 Go to powder for what?

I had good results with 4831 in 3006 and larger. You can't over load it. Even better in the magnums. Not so good at smaller cartridges. There are many better choices. I think it was original for machine gun. Seems like from many years ago as reclaimed powder .

Most magnums 338 win mag and 300 win mag eat it up. It's not designed for the smaller capacity or smaller diameter bullets. Large calibers

300 Win Mag or 338 Win Mag

I have both 300 and 338 win mag and like both. Some years ago i did a study of the best all around cartridge at the time and 338 win mag was the best. I use mine for deer abd elk hunting. I built mine on a mauser action and federal barrel, no longer in business, accuracy is fantastic. Knock...

    Mauser K98 action?

I built a number of rifles on the mauser 98 actions. My main hunting rifle is 338 win mag. French walnut stock with Federal barrel. Also 7x57, 308 and 3006. Make sure the actions are in good shape. Sarco has action and parts. 1970s, 1980s they were plentiful and reasonably priced. They .ake...

    Powder Valley

Seems like some items I have looked at on midway were very high priced . I have bought alot from them over the years. I do price shop and if one place is outrageous I look elsewhere . Typically brass and loading items and ammo if available. I see someone paid 52 dollars for Berger Which are...

    Reloading press

My Rock chucker was stolen years ago when I was working in Tucson. Along with everything in my shop. They missed my 550 Dillion some how. I have used an inexpensive Lee since for rifle loads. Works as good as any. The Dillon is good for pistol and 223, AR type loading 6 8 and grendel. But I...

131 grain hammer hunter load development for my 6.5 PRC

Usually the maker will have data, but you need to get loading manuals Hornady , Siera, Berger . There is no magic load. Every gun is different. Manuals have pressure and velocity data. Very good starting place as you workup loads.

Use a grain mill to make your own tumbling media.

I have purchased walnut shells for polishing brass somewhere Maybe from Dillon. I think they added a rouge. if you have stuff why not sounds like a great idea. The rice sounds great as well. Brown rice or Thai Jasmine.
