i have read remington tested aprox 25 fps.for each inch of bbl length i dont remember wich calibers but i assume it would be not much different in magnum calibers seems me it would be more in hotter 22 centerfres like 22-250 and 22 swift just my guess.

i would use the flattest shooting very high bc bullets available its quite possible to come across a monster buck 300 to 500 yards away choose carefully the wind is also a major factor its not killing power its being able to make a killing shot at those ranges .i have used 7mmrem mag handloaded...

try sierra 165 game changer bullets and powder like 4064 although reloader 16 is a great powder .there are a few more you can try like nosler partition bullets.with all those different powders and bullets and you cant find anything better than an1.5 or 2inch a1.5 is useable to 400 yards...

it could be any thing no way of knowing most likely an over charged round remedied by looking in the top of the case while loading or even slight obstruction in the barrel from unknown object or even head separation due to faulty case or loaded to many times.

a 243 or 6mm remington would stop a deer cold at 200 to 400 yds no problem using 100 gr bullets it might be a bit light at 500 but in the heart lung area its fine .the bullets have a high bc.and retain enough energy to stop the biggest deer.my opinion

i once had a 7mmmag that blew primers with factory loads why.i dont know it was brand new a savage model 110.i have had trouble more than once with savage firearms.i could never load max loads in either one of those rifles.i can only conclude that they were made with minimal chamber...
